My fashion design and accessories graduate collection for Istituto Marangoni. It is a homage to my roots from my Hungarian side. It is inspired by the punk movement in Hungary during the 80s, when freedom of expression was often repressed, it is a celebration of the DIY underground creativity of each individual of that era. Patchworks, frayed edges and hand painted textiles and shibori are the essence of this project.
I tried to immerse myself into this historical period and I also tried to imagine how I could challenge my creativity, for example, by using fabric scraps that would have gone to waste, creating interesting and irregular cuts. I also used everyday tools like safety pins to decorate a dress, an object which was known to be a punk staple piece. I incorporated the patchwork effect also within the illustrations, combining various photographs and illustrations to create one collage. Which when developed, gave me inspiration of where to insert the cuts.
